D2 -- Looking for Love

D2 was surrendered to us as his owners were not able to afford the work up required to treat his underlying health issues, and sadly he was going to be put to sleep. A staff member from the vet stepped in and D2 is now in our care looking for his forever home.
D2 is described to be quite timid and fearful of strangers - he will need a very gentle human friend who will be patient with him until he feels safe. When he feels more secure and comfortable, we've been told he is very affectionate and likes strokes down his back and sitting on laps. He loves food and playing with toys.
D2 prefers not to be handled/picked up. He likes inside and outside time and knows how to use a cat flap. We are unsure if he is a hunter, but due to his skittish nature, it's likely he is more a lover than a fighter.
D2 would be best suited to a home with no children or older teenage children, and as an only pet.
D2 is a medical foster due to his underlying medical problems.
